On April 4th, 2019 we received our 2000th order! This was a momentous occasion because the order came from Tank It Easy, one of our first dealers when Titan Aquatic Exhibits (TAE) was started in 2011.
2000 orders, that is an average of producing 250 custom-built aquariums a year or equal to almost one aquarium per working day of the year. I consider this to be a pretty amazing milestone for our company, especially considering my partners and I started the company with a $2000.00 loan. I still remember order number one. It came from City Aquarium in NYC, they only ordered a replacement panel but we were thrilled. Our first full aquarium order didn’t actually come until order number two.
I have to admit that professionally and personally this has been an incredible journey so far. We have had the pleasure of working for Hollywood stars, world-class athletes, professional sports organizations, fortune 500 companies, public aquariums and everything in between.
Prior to starting TAE we worked for an aquarium company called Tenecor that closed its doors in 2012. One of the main goals we had in starting our own company was to elevate our engineering standards. We also decided to not sell to directly to retail and rely more on a network of dealers around the country.
We hold our dealers in very high regards. The vast majority of our 2000 orders went to dealers. That means they found the projects, cultivated the relationship with their clients, chose us to manufacture and then entrusted us to deliver. We are so very grateful to our dealers.
In the course of 2000 orders I will admit we aren’t always perfect. Sometimes damage happens in shipping or sometimes a bubble in a seam can occur. If you were to ask any of our clients how fast we responded regarding these issues or the lengths we will go to make sure our dealers and clients are happy, I am certain there would be resounding accolades.
In the last 8 years, I’ve heard countless stories about how people have been treated horribly from other companies in our industry. I am always shocked and will never understand the reasoning of “once it is out the door, it isn’t my problem anymore”. I know I wouldn’t want to do business with people who treated me that way and I certainly wouldn’t allow our company to do it to others.
I estimate that out of our 2000 orders we have replaced 3 aquariums. Each of those replacements was done happily because we stand behind our work and it is our reputation on the line. We want every client to look at our work and never have a regret. We expect our entire staff to keep our engineering and manufacturing at the highest level. Whether it is the initial client inquiry call or the person crating an aquarium to be shipped and delivered, we expect excellence throughout.
Our clients expect a high level of craftsmanship and professionalism from us. We will continue to raise the bar for them and will always be asking ourselves how we can improve processes so we can keep Titan Aquatic at the pinnacle of acrylic aquarium manufacturing. We will continue to partner with the best in the industry to keep offering the latest and greatest while making it easier for our dealers to grow their businesses. We know as our partners grow, we grow too. We have made incredible relationships through the years and we stand by our decision we made in 2011 to not compete with the dealers. This has worked out well for us.
As we prepare to send out our 2000th order, myself, my partners and our entire staff want to thank all of our dealers who have trusted us to be a part of their business and team. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are now without all of you. We sincerely look forward to the next 2000 orders and working with all of you for many years to come.
